So i would like to start this project of getting the new version of ubuntu:

on the sony mylo COM-1.

I don't think that Damn Small Linux on the Mylo is not an ideal option; DSL is designed to run on the X86 architecture, while the Mylo is an ARM device. It would be more prudent to get standard Debian, or something similar, on there.

Now, the real hurdle for the Mylo is getting anything else to run on it in the first place; Sony has not made it a hacker-friendly device. Once someone figures that part out, the doors will be wide open; the Mylo already runs Linux, and most of its core devices (i.mx21) are well documented.

Writing to the NAND flash directly is my bet.
